Interesting Fact: The RIIRIS601E Unit of competency is sometimes referred to as the “G3 Course”. The term G3 is a legacy term used by old-school coal miners who remember the original unit of competency MNC.G3.A - Manage the risk control system.
The MNC.G3.A was an MNC98 Black Coal unit of Competency used between 1988-2004. The MNC04 Coal Training Package superseded the Black Coal competencies in 2004 and the G3 unit was updated to become “MNCG1003A Establish the risk management system”. The release of the RII09 Resources and Infrastructure in 2009 ended the MNC04 Coal training package and the MNCG1003A unit underwent significant updates to become; RIIRIS601A Establish and maintain the Risk management system.
